

Besides music, Kanika has an innate talent for Nritya (dance) and has acquired a sound footing in Kathak (classical dance form of north India) for ten years from Sh. Girdhari Maharaj in Jaipur. Later she went on to learn from the renowned Kathak dancer, the torchbearer of Jaipur Gharana of Kathak, Pt. Rajendra Gangani.
She has been highly acclaimed for her dance performances on stage and television. Kanika is a recipient of several prizes, awards and scholarships for her talent in Dance. She also won several prizes in youth festivals and other cultural events while still pursuing her bachelor’s and master’s degree at the university of Rajasthan in Music and Art. She is one of the few artists who has successfully maintained the training and early career in two art forms and received equal recognition for both the art forms. Kanika received scholarships in both music and dance from the Sangeet Natak Academy, Jaipur in 1989 and the ministry of HRD, Govt. of India in 1992. She has performed in many prestigious festivals and major cultural centers in India.
Kanika’s artistic pursuits are not limited to that of music and dance, she also displayed her acting skills in a Hollywood film. Kanika had the honor of working with much acclaimed Oscar winning director Bernardo Bertolucci in his film “Little Buddha”.
She portrayed Queen Mahamaya’s character on screen and also gave voice to her own character in the movie. She also recorded music for the film’s soundtrack, under the direction of Ustad Zakir Hussain and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
She has anchored many music and cultural shows on stage and television.
